Out the line series kicks-off

With two staples of the local road running calendar, Dessie’s Run (August 27th) and the Waterside Half Marathon (September 8th) looming, the more recent Foyle Valley “Out the Line Series” kicked off its 2013 edition on Wednesday night.

And the first of the ‘Out the Line’ races resulted in wins for the Spartans Gary Slevin and Lifford’s Anne Marie McGlynn in the opening 3K race.

A good turnout of 80 plus runners lined up on the old Letterkenny Road railway line and, in humid conditions, produced some decent runs.

Gary Slevin was first home in 9m 20secs, a good effort, and was followed by the promoting club’s, improving Stephen Connor on 9m 31s with another Spartan, Michael Finnegan, a close up third on 9m 35s.

The talented Lifford duo of Anne Marie Larkin and Natasha Adams were well clear in the women’s race, clocking excellent times of 10m 11secs and 10m 13secs respectively at the head of the field.

Clones AC master athlete, Helen Stockdale was third female in 11m 07secs with the leading local female Miriam Bridge on 11m 50secs.

Back to the men’s race and chasing the top three were the leading Masters, City of Derry’s M45 Paul McCafferty on 9m 42s and Finn Valley M40 Martin Irwin on 9m 45s.

Triathlete Daniel Quigley ran sub 10m for sixth, clocking 9m 57s and in seventh was the top M35, the in-form Mark Mullan with 10m even.

The series continues next Tuesday night with the 5K run and concludes on Tuesday, August 6th with a 5 miler.

All races are on the “Out the Line” circuit and have a 7.30 p.m. start with the Long Tower centre the event HQ.
