GREENCASTLE past captain, Paddy Havlin (24) claimed top honours at Neil Guckian’s Captain’s Day at the Inishowen club last weekend with a winning score of 43 points.

Played in excellent conditions Paddy had a steady front nine, followed by an excellent back nine of 25 points, which included three pars and a birdie, to land him the biggest competition of the year.

Sunday’s competition was an Open Singles Stableford, and the winner was another local man, Philip Cavanagh (27) with 39 points.

Gary Jackson traveled with his Ulster Cup team to Portstewart for the away leg of the competition having secured an excellent 6.5 to 0.5 result at Foyle the previous weekend.

With the winners of the tie securing a place in the quarter-finals Mr. Jackson’s team halved the tie for an overall victory by 10 matches to 4 and they now play Letterkenny.

Faughan Valley

The winner of the mid-week competition was 22 handicapper Clifford Caldwell with 43 points.

The weekend saw the good weather bringing the golfers out, with a full card for the weekend competition which was won by Owen McGuiness (21) with 39 points.

This weekend will see one of Faughan Valley’s most popular competition, The Ronnie Ross Trophy, who was the club’s first captains and held the position for three years.

On Saturday, July 28th Cecil King will stage his Captain’s Day and the draw will take place next Wednesday evening, July 25th.
