Rock Flying Club lead the way from Clonmel

DOMINATING the proceedings this week in the City of Derry Racing Pigeon Federation race from Clonmel was Rock Flying Club member, Gerry Toner, who took 1st and 2nd spots.

And racing a small team of pigeons, the makes it more pleasing especcially as he is well up in the N.I.P.A. Open race.

Other Rock members were also prominent with newcomer Tommy w taking 3rd and Eamon Quigley making it a good day for the Rock Club taking 4th and 20th.

Maiden City winner Billy Page turned in another good preformance when taking 5th and 19th while Derry & District members Sean Duffy (6th), J. & G. Ramsey (7th and 11th), Sean Healy (8th), Fox & Hegarty (Rock) took 9th while I. Flanagan & Son (Londonderry) took 10th, 13th and 17th.

Maiden City members, Borland & Kelly finished in 12th; Robbie Hegarty was 14th; Pat McLaughlin 15th; McGettigan Bros. 16th and Foyle member, James Gallagher finished in 18th.

Racaing this weekend will be from Fermoy, Co. Cork.

Foyle RPS

The birds went to Clonmel for their 182 mile trek with16 members sending 159 birds and with a strong east wind, a hard race was on the cards.

However, the pigeon showing the way home belonged to Jamsie Gallagher, Creggan Heights, who also takes 7th place with last week winners, Paul & Elaine Maxwell, having to settle for the second spot as well as 3rd, 5th & 10th.

Raymond O’Reilly finished in 4th; Barry Hart in 6th; Jim Diamond took 8th & 9th.

This week’s race is from Fermoy, Co. Cork and basketing will take place between 4.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.

Foyle members extend their congratulations to Glen Quinn from the Strabane club who won the Open from last week’s race.

Derry & District

Taking his first Red Card of the season in the Derry & District Club was the loft of Sean Duffy with 2nd and 4th places taken by Jim & Gary Ramsey who have been flying consistently.

Sean Healy timed two birds to take 3rd and 10th with Tony Mullan & Son racing well to take 5th and 6th places.

Others to figure were - 7th, Anthony McCrudden; 8th, M. & C. Chism; 9th, Colm McConomy.

The club would like to thank all those who took part in the recent club fundraising “Night at the Races.” Thanks also to the sponsors and especially thos who purchases horses and, indeed, turned up on the night.

Londonderry RPS

The Glen Lofts of L. Flanagan & Son got their season off to winning ways in style by taking the top three positions in the Waterside club last weekend with N. Murray taking the runner-up spot with another bird in 8th position.

P. Breslin & Son finished 5th, whilst J. & D. Kelly claimed 6th & 7th. T. Cassidy finshed off the result in the Waterside with two birds in the frame for 9th & 10th positions.

Maiden City RPS

Last week saw the birds at Clonmel, a distance of over 180 miles and Billy Page recorded his second successive victory proving to be the in-form loft at the moment.

Paddy Kelly took second although an error in distances had placed his first initially - apologies to both Paddy and Heather. Third place was secured by Robbie Hegarty who took the last of the prizemoney.

This weekend the birds will be at Fermoy.
