Portsalon Golf Club stages the much anticipated Sean McGettigan Open Golf Club Classic tomorrow.

The event is a team of four any combination and tee times are available so make sure that you are included in this superb event contact 074 9159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com to ensure your place. Entry fee, which includes your meal, is E120 per team.

One of the oldest golfing events in the history of Portsalon Golf Club, the Barton Cup will be held on Monday, August 6th. The event was first staged in 1899.

This is an open match play event played over nine holes with the semi-finals and final played over 18 holes.

All participants must have their names entered by Saturday, August 4th and the draw will take place at 6 p.m.

The first tee is reserved for this prestigious event and the competition gets underway at 7.30 a.m.

In order to have the matches played all players are asked to be on time. For those defeated in first round of the Barton Cup they will be entered into the McMenamin Plate.

Preparations are well underway at Portsalon Golf Club for D. P. Logue’s Captain’s Day which will be played on Saturday, August 18th.

There was a large turnout on Saturday last for Noreen McConigley’s Lady Captain’s Day.

The Lady Captain had a special section for the gents and playing in ideal weather conditions Rathmullen’s John Birney blazed his way around the course and recorded a magnificent 43 points to win on the break of tie.

Results - 1, break of tie, John Birney 43pts; 2, Ronan McClafferty 43; Gross - Eamon McDermott 32; 3, Michael Shields 42; Best nines - Tony Kingston and Sean Gibson; CSS was 37 points.

The winner of the open competition sponsored by Finn Valley Pheasantries was John Doherty (10) 41 points.

Results - 1, John Doherty (10) 41pts; 2, Connor McFadden (12) 39; Gross - Pascal Cullen (6) 31; 3, Danny Kerr (18) 37; The CSS was 36 points.

Speedy Recovery

The Captain D. P. Logue and members of Portsalon golf club would like to wish Geraldine Wall a speedy recovery and a return to the Portsalon ‘Banks’.

This season’s matchplay competition at Portsalon has reached the quarter-final stage and the players are reminded that all matches must be played by July 31st.
