Sean T. Hits Top Form at “Lowers”

Top scoring was the order of the day at Buncrana last weekend in the W. P. McCarter Memorial competition, which was sponsored by the McCarter family.

With the “Lowers” course in excellent condition, the platform was set for good scoring and the competitors rose to the occasion with some tremendous returns recorded over the two days.

Indeed, it took a break of a tie to separate the first and second positions with both players shooting fantastic scores of 46 points. However, thanks to a superior back nine, Sean T. Murphy took first place from Leo Sheehy.

Sean’s 46 points were actually accumulated in terrible conditions on Saturday morning and while he secured 19 points in the front nine, his 27 points on the way home was a significant effort.

Full results were - W. P. McCarter Memorial Open Stableford - 1, break of tie, Sean T. Murphy (19) 46 points; 2, Leo Sheehy (18) 46; gross, Brian Griffin (6) 66; 3, break of tie, Sean McMenamin (17) 44; best day, Shaun Devlin (13) 44; visitor, Hugh McDaid (14), North-West, 38; back nine, break of tie, Roger Doherty (17) 21.
