North-West Triathlon Club has kicked-off its competition season in style with strong performances at both the MidUlster and Buncrana Duathlons.
The season began for club members last weekend at the Meadowbank Sports Arena, Magherafelt in the Mid-Ulster Sprint Duathlon.
Nine club members travelled to the event which covered a challenging course including a 2.5km run, 20km bike followed by a 2.5km run.
Daniel Quigley clocked a time of just over one hour to finish in ninth position in the men’s race. Gary O’Donnell was the second NWTC member home, James Beattie followed closely behind with debutant, Alvaro San Miguel, seconds behind him.
Maeve Maher-McWilliams crossed the line in third position in the women’s race. There were also strong performances from Frankie Dunlop, Shaun Heaney, Thomas McCallion and Ian Cullen.
An even bigger turnout competed in the Buncrana Charity Duathlon on Sunday.
Quite a few duathlon debutantes took part in the race which covered a course involving a two mile run and 10 mile bike followed by another two mile run.
Daniel Quigley finished second in the men’s race to Gavin Crawford of Letterkenny 247 T.C.
NWCT women picked up first and second with Joanne Doran claiming top spot and Maeve Maher-McWilliams in second.
