Team Eight issues statement of intent having opened up a 10 points gap

TEAM Eight, consisting Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, John Jennings and Dermott Harkin, have opened up a 10 points gap as the Pitchers’ Spring League at Foyle reached the half-way point in the qualifying stages.

And with the teams having now returned five cards the leaders’ excellent score of 94 points for their fifth round has saw them issue a statement of intent in this particular competition with an accumulated total of 449 points.

The leading teams are - Team 8 - Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, John Jennings and DermottHarkin, 449 points; Team 7 - Kieran Bradley, Joe Bradley, John Logue, Martin Loughrey, 439; Team 15 - David Wilson, Rob Ewing, Declan Ryan, Brendan Gallagher, 439;

Team 11 - Jackie Thomas, Philip Smyth, George Fitzpatrick and Kevin Crumley, 431; Team 9 - John Coyle, Maurice Temple, Tommy Bryson, Jim McGrotty, 418.

The coveted Foyle Sunday Society “Golfer of the Year” title is turning into a very close contest after 16 rounds and with the best 12 rounds to count Ciaran O’Doherty holds a slender three point over Paul McEleney.

Fred Young came out top in the scr. to 9 category of last Saturday’s Categories Stableford, but the best score of the day was returned by George Phillips with 28 points in the 10 to 18 handicap category.

Meanwhile, the second heat of Ballyliffin’s annual Master Chef continues tomorrow (Saturday) with contestants Frank Harkin, William Doherty (The Butcher) and Lisa Glover. Tickets are priced at E15 and include appetiser, main course, glass of wine and quiz. Sitting down for 8.00 p.m. sharp.

Notes From Greencastle

A nine holes stableford for Ladies & Gents was held last Saturday with Frances Harkin (16 points) and Dermot McBride (21 points) taking top honours.

This weekend’s competitions are a Ladies and Gents Singles Stableford on Saturday and a Gents Singles on Sunday.

Entries are being taken for the Biggar and Inniskillen Cups and forms have been posted on the club Notice Board.
