PREDICTABLY, the annual Pitchers’ Restaurant-sponsored Spring League at Foyle is again appearing to be a very competitive affair with three teams now tied at the top of the qualifying phase after the fourth card returns.
Teams 17, 7 and 11 have all accumulated 378 points and they have opened a seven point lead over the chasing pack.
With six qualifying rounds still to play, it will be a very close finish as the teams compete for the eight qualifying places on offer in the matchplay finals.
Meanwhile, the highlight of last week’s play was a hole-in-one at the par three15th hole where Ciaran O’Doherty struck the perfect 9 iron to hole out for his ace. The feat was witnessed by playing partners Jim McFadden, Mark Doherty and Norman Allen.
The leading teams after four rounds are - Team 17 - Gerald Conaty, Darren McCarron, Gary Loughran and Adrian Brown, 378 points; Team 7 - Cormac McGeady, Damian McColgan, Eddie McKeever and Andrew McKeever, 378; Team 11 - Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Dermot Harkin and Jim McFadden,378; Team 15 - Kieran Bradley, Martin Loughrey, Steve Moore and Joe Bradley, 371; Team 13 - Stephen Powell, Darren Bradley, Thomas Bradley and Laurence Powell, 370.

Meanwhile, Foyle Golf will host its 19th Annual General Meeting on Monday next, February 18th, in the Foyle Golf Centre at 7.30 p.m.
Council would urge all members to attend and fully engage in the meeting.

With the qualifying rounds now completed in the Buncrana Mini-League, the knockout matchplay takes centre stage this weekend. The draw for the matchplay has been posted on the Clubhouse Notice Board and all matches must played on or before this Sunday, there will be no exceptions.
One match has been completed this week involving Cathal Grant & Peter Kelly who faced Willie McLaughlin & Andy Doherty (T). Willie & Andy played some great golf to record an impressive 5&4 victory and the result continued a fine run of form for Andy as he also claimed victory the annual Drift Inn Outing at Ballyliffin last week with a tremendous score of 43 points.
If Andy can maintain his recent rich vein of form, the Buncrana handicap convenors be keeping an eye on him so the popular member could well prove to be a force to be reckoned with when the competitive calendar tees-off in March.
For those which teams to qualify for the matchplay stages, an 18 holes Stableford (Greensomes) competition has been organised this weekend with a prize for the team which returns the top score.
Meanwhile, a new “Find the Joker” fund-raising effort is up and running with the jackpot rising to E715. There will also be an opportunity to win two extra prizes of E100 each if the ‘joker’ is not found.Lines cost E2 each and your support would be appreciated.
The annual membership fees are now due and members who use the instalment process to pay their respective membership fess have until March to do so.
There is a new rate of membership at E150 (inclusive of G.U.I. and Insurance) for persons over-18 years and under-21 years of age.
Members please note that the competitive calendar will commence on March 2nd and in order for members to participate in competitions, they will have to make their intentions clear in relation to future membership.

Application forms are on the club website or requested from the office and all applications will be reviewed at the April Council meeting.
