THE formidable quartet of of Dale Kerr (15), Paddy Fletcher (17), Paul Mc Daid (18) and Ferdía O’Flaherty (21) won last weekend’s Open Scramble at Buncrana with 51 points.
In second place on a break of tie with 50 points were Andrew McIlhinney (12), Shane Dillon (15), Gearóid Doherty (19) and Davy Hone (24).
The best day prize was won by Derek Smith (9), Keenan Barrett (22), Paddy Corr (23) and Martin Barber (24) with 50 points.
A Mixed Team Scramble was staged at the “Lowers” last night to officially open the Captain’s weekend and sun certainly shone on Buncrana’s leading official, Mr. Kevin McDermott.
His prizes will continue tomorrow and Saturday with the Captain’s visitors scheduled to tee-off from 2.00 p.m. with the weekend highlight centred on the traditional Captain’s Presentation Dinner and Dance which will take place in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel at 8.00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Tickets are on sale and anyone who wishes to attend can purchase a ticket in the clubhouse for E20.
Meanwhile, there will be a three-days Open Singles Stableford on offer, from Monday next, June 3rd through to Wednesday, June 5th. A timesheet is in operation bookings can be made by contacting the clubhouse on 0749362279.
Amelia Earhart Fesival Stableford at foyle
In association with the Amelia Earhart Festival and as part of the City of Culture events, Foyle Golf Club staged a special Two-Days Open Stableford boasting a prize fund of £1,400, last weekend.
In fact, 230 competitors took to the Ballyarnett fairways in search of the top prize, a set of Callaway Irons and while Declan Ryan held the top score of 41 after the opening day’s play, David McGarrigle matched that effort on day two with a tie-break called in to separate the pair. In the end, David’s superior back nine gave him top honours and that superb first prize.
