The annual Foyle Valley run and walk in memory of their late colleague, Colm Wilkinson, has been arranged for this Thursday week, May 24th, on the Cycle Path along the Rivers Foyle in the Brandywell area of the city.
The 5 km. event will get underway at 7.30 p.m. and, as usual, a large attendance is expected to take part.
The 5 mile run is an accurately measured, flat and fast course which will appeal to both the serious runner and fun runner who would like to measure their progress over a fixed distance.
And the current course records are held by City of Derry Spartans’ Gregory Roberts (25 mins. 30 secs.) and Cathy McCourt (30 mins. 04 secs).
Registration for the event will open at 6.00 p.m. at the Long Tower Youth Centre which is situated beside Brandywell Stadium.
Both the walk and run will be set off at 7.30 p.m. along the traffic-free routes and those taking part are urged to allow 15 minutes to walk from the Youth Centre to the start area along the cycle path.
The entry fee of £8.00 will include a Tee-Shirt for the first 120 to enter and a ‘goody bag’ for all entrants.
Prizes will be awarded for the categories in the run only and all money raised will be distributed between three local charities.
