Benefit night for Trojans FC at Lifford

Lifford Stadium will host a major fundraiser night for Trojans Football Club tomorrow night at the track and there is certain to be a large turnout at the Co. Donegal venue.

The main races in a top class 13 race card will be the two semi-finals of the George Holmes Memorial over 575 yards.

And on the tipping front I managed one winner out of my two selections last week so hopefully I can improve on that this weekend.

The first bet on the card will be ‘Hather Mango’ in the first semi-final. This black bitch, trained and owned by Willie Mullan, was a good winner of her semi-final last week from trap four in a time of 31.89 and she once again is drawn in trap four in her ‘semi’ tomorrow night.

If she repeats last week’s winning time she will certainly prove difficult to defeat.

The second bet on the card for me will be ‘Tahina Rossi’ in the second semi-final. This May 09 dog, trained by Vera Croarkin, was also a good winner of his heat in a time of 31.85 last week and he really relished the demanding 575.

I don’t think he will be a big price on the night with the bookmakers but he can’t be opposed with so much on hand on the clock.

Also, as normal, the live racing from Shelbourne Park will be shown on the track’s tvs. The main races of the night from the Dublin venue will be the semi-finals of the Betfair 600 and the second round heats of the Larry Dunne Open 525.

So, as normal, the first race tomorrow night will be at 7.50 p.m.

George Holmes memorial semi-finals - (in trap order) - 1st semi-final; Nushas Swallow; Colarhouse Lady; Whitefield Ball; Hather Mango; Rosmon Charlie; Cragaknock Plume.

2nd semi-final - Echo Boy; Colarhouse Lucky; So You Think; Tahina Rossi; Tic Tok Causeway; Nosey Jane.

Six top class contenders for Brandywell Final

The final of the John Long Memorial 500 will be the main race on Monday night’s card at Brandywell and six top class greyhounds contest for honours.

There was three semi-finals of the competition last Monday night at the track and after those, attempting to select the winner in a very open final will be no easy task for punters.

‘Locnamon Tina’, owned by Sean Melly, and ‘Old Fort Disco’, owned by Brian Robinson, will be joint favourites for the final after their good semi-final wins.

And with only four spots on time between both dogs, there should be little between them, however, I like Sean Melly’s ‘Locnamon Tina’ as I think she has slightly better early pace. She won from trap five last week and she once again has trap five in the final. If she leads she will be difficult to defeat.

The main danger to the selection, in my opinion, will be ‘Nushkas Swallow’ owned by Derek Edger.

This strong staying dog will be a major danger if getting away on terms but I think the early pace of ‘Locnamon Tina’ will be the deciding factor in this final.

So best of luck to all six dogs and their owners on Monday night. As normal the first race will be at 8 p.m.

John Long Memorial Final - (in trap order) - Calluke Jigalo; Eileenthedealer; Nushkas Swallow;

Old Fort Disco; Locnamon Tina; Deal Done.
