Last weekend’s competitions at Greencsatle were affected by the constant rain with no event taking place on Sunday.
However, Saturday’s competition enjoyed a good entry and the scoring was impressive.
John Quigley (16) won the gent’s competition with 37 points over the 15 holes in play, which represented seven under his handicap for his round, a superb performance. He had a birdie at the 11th hole and six pars.
Runner up, Denis Canavan (15), also performed extremely well returning 36 points.
In the ladies competition, Eileen Farren (29) won with 31 points. She played the par three holes very well, collecting 14 points over the five that were in play.
Tomorrow (Sat.) a Ladies and Gents Confined Stableford has been organised with a Singles Stableford on Sunday.
Tomorrow week, Saturday. February 23rd, the Donegal & Friends Ladies Winter Alliance have booked the course from 9.00 a.m. until 12.00 noon.
Entries are now being taken for the club’s matchplay competitions. Entry forms have been posted on the notice board, and the draw will take place after the Captain’s Drive-In which is scheduled for March 18th.
Christopher Wins on
Last Saturday’s Confined Sweep was played in good conditions and it was Christopher Hegarty (18) who came out on top with a fine score of 41points.
Christopher played some great golf to shoot 20 points on the front nine and he backed that up with a further 21 on the way home and that was enough to see him home with a break of tie victory over Sean Murphy (16). Terry Meenan (9) finished in third spot with 39 pts.n 3rd on 39.
Meanwhile in last Sunday’s Sweep, Jason Spence (5) produced the goods when winning in fine style.
Jason returned a superb score of 39 points despite the tough conditions.
He finished three points clear of his nearest rival.
Tomorrow’s competition at Lisfannon is an Open Meal Deal event while on Sunday a Confined Stableford is on offer to North-West members.
Competitions at Prehen
Last weekend’s Ball Sweep at City of Derry was played over nine holes on Saturday due to weather constraints.
However, Robin McClay (10) recorded his third win in four outings, scoring 23 points for a break of tie victory over Jim McGeady (14).
Robin’s performance has merited the attention of the Handicap Convener and a possible adjustment may be made to his handicap reflecting his outstanding performances over the last two months.
No play was possible in last week’s Thursday Society or Sunday Society competitions due to the inclement weather.
