DARTS: Gallagher the hero as Mailey's lift Gary English Cup

Mailey's claimed the 2016 Gary English Cup an excellent 3-1 victory over The Cosh following a night of high quality darts in front of a large crowd in Mary B's last Friday.

Dean Gallagher proved the hero for the winners as he upset the odds to defeat Cosh captain Martin McCloskey 2-0 in the final singles game. Had Mailey’s lost that tie, a sudden-death Captains’ play-off would have resulted in Sean Wilson taking on Martin McCloskey to decide the game. However Gallagher had other ideas and ended it with a game to remember in the final.

Maileys had overcame the challenge of George’s in the semi-final by 3-0, the highlight for George’s being Ciaran McNally’s game against Sean Gallagher which went right to the death in the first singles match.

Cosh saw off the Fairview 3-0, the highlight being Fairview captain Terry O’Kane’s game against Martin McCloskey. With shots in both legs, Terry could have taken the tie and given Gerry Doherty a game against Jackie Corcoran.

The organisers paid special thanks to Hugh Doherty and Philip Duune for the facilities on the night and to the family and friends of the Gary English who presented the Cup to the winners.
