City of Derry Boating Club enjoyed success at the recent indoor championships held in Limerick.
Local man, Des Brown was victorious in the 60-69 age group over 2000m and Bobby Brennan brought home two gold medals with victory in both the 2000m and 500m in the 40-49 age group.
Gaetano D`Urso lifted the silver medal in the 50-59 age group. Gaetano’s feat is even more impressive when it’s considered that he won the race only weeks after having surgery to remove a pin in his leg.
The junior members also played their part with Rory Gilliland and Brian Gallagher lifting silver and bronze respectively in the junior 16 age group 2000m and Chelsie Coyle was outstanding bringing home bronze in the girls’ junior 14 age group 500m.
Rowing continues to go from strength to strength in the city and caters for all age groups and gender. Anyone interested in having a go should come along to the Boat House at Prehen any Saturday morning from 10am.
