A firefighter had a chain swung at him after crews came under attack at a camp site in Strabane last night.
Local Sinn Fein Councillor Brian McMahon expressed anger at the incident which is alleged to have happened while firefighters were responding to a fire at a Traveller's site in Greenbrae.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Strabane station officer Barry McDowell said that they had to withdraw from the scene to ensure the safety of the crew.

"It has a traumatic effect when crews are trying to help members of the public and are then attacked," he said.

Councillor McMahon said the local community enjoyed a good relationship with the Fire Service and there was anger at the incident.
