A 24-year-old Strabane woman who took her friend's car without permission to collect another friend who had been assaulted in the early hours of the morning, has been fined £150 and handed six penalty points for driving without insurance.
Vanessa Thompson, O’ Kane Terrace, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and taking her friend’s Vauxhall Vectra on May 25th this year.

Thompson was detected by police on the Garvan Road, Sion Mills at 7.25am on her return from picking up a friend who had been assaulted in Strabane town centre.

Thompson’s solicitor said that his client was a 24-year-old unemployed woman whose “misplaced” and “misguided loyalty” to her friend had resulted in her taking a male friend’s car while he was asleep in her home to help another friend.

District Judge Liam McNally said that he would take into account Thompson’s clear record.when he imposed a conditional discharge for 12 months for taking a vehicle without the owners permission. She was fined £150 and given six penalty points for driving without insurance.
