A Strabane man, who "skidded" across the road into an oncoming vehicle, has been fined £250 and handed five penalty points at the town's Magistrate's Court.
The court heard that 25-year-old Robert Brown, Spruce Road collided with an oncoming vehicle after he failed to slow down and his Citroen Saxo skidded into the path of a Ford Mondeo after coming round a bend in the road.

Brown’s solicitor told the court that at the time of the accident on the 27th February this year the road was wet and the accident was “unavoidable”.

He said that Brown was an “accomplished” driver and he had to be removed from his car by an ambulance crew and treated for minor injuries.

“In his view when he came around the bend he was in an impossible situation because there were two vehicles in the middle of the road,” he said.

District Judge Liam McNally said: “This is a typical example of driving on country roads. One of the other drivers who slowed down and pulled in to let another vehicle past had done the right thing. Mr. Brown took no account of the road conditions, it was a wet road and he failed to reduce his speed,” he said.
