The Station Commander of Strabane Firestation has expressed his anger after a group of firefighters were verbally abused and spat at by late night revellers waiting for taxis at the entrance to the station last weekend.
As a result of the abuse the officers say they are considering new security measures.

Terry Morrison, Station Commander said his officers had been delayed when responding to calls last weekend because the forecourt was blocked with taxis and their customers.

Mr Morrison said: "Last Sunday morning, in the early hours - approximately two o'clock - there was quite a number, about 30 or 40 persons, in the station grounds," he said.

"There were also taxi drivers there using the station forecourt as a pick-up point.

"When firefighters responded to a call they were hindered from getting into the station and apart from that we were verbally abused and some were spat on."
