A Castlederg man, who was "narrowly" over the legal limit when he collided with another vehicle, has been banned from driving for one year and fined £250.
Stephen Howitt, Dergvale, Castlederg told police that he couldn’t recall being involved in a head-on collision on the 8th December last year at 3.20am on the Drumquin Road.
Strabane Magistrate’s Court heard that Howitt (27) was 5mg in excess of the legal limit. He said that he couldn’t recall what had caused the collision or if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident which left him in hospital for a number of weeks.
Howitt’s solicitor said that his client accepted what had happened and he took the word of the eye witnesses as he could not remember who was at fault in the two car collision.
District Judge Liam McNally said that he took into account that Howitt was narrowly over the legal limit at the time of the collision. He fined him a total of £250 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
