A 22-year-old Castlederg man has been banned from driving and fined £300 after he was caught by police officers doing 90mph in a 40mph zone.
Ruairi Browne, Hillview Park, Castlederg, said that he was speeding home “to get to his bed for work in the morning” when police officers clocked him doing 90mph on the Drumquin Road at 11.40pm on the 1st June this year.

Browne’s solicitor said that his client accepted full responsibility for his actions and he realised that he was at fault.

The court heard that Browne’s employment was in jeopardy if he was disqualified from driving.

District Judge Liam McNally told Browne that his speed was “appalling” and compared his fast speed to “a speed that would be seen on a motorway”.

“There must be an automatic disqualification from doing this type of speed in a 40mph zone.I will disqualify you from driving for three months and impose a fine of £300,” Mr. McNally said.
