Westport in Co Mayo is firmly on the map as a premier holiday destination in Ireland.

It’s fast also becoming the country’s leading family adventure holiday destination where you’ll be spoiled for choice come rain or shine.

Even better when you stay at the 4 Star Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort favoured by visitors from the North West.

Centrally located in the popular tourist town, the hotel resort specialises in family getaways, offering spacious guestrooms - with interconnecting and family rooms available - a fully supervised kids club, state-of-the-art leisure complex and the wonderfully indulgent Spa Sula.

New for Summer 2013, the Resort is offering its guests exclusive discounts with some of the most popular activity providers in Westport.

Our group of two adults and two teenagers had an amazing time in Westport last week trying out some of the myriad of activities on offer.

Staff at the Castlecourt ensured we were looked after from start to finish with beautiful adjoining guestrooms and excellent food, whilst also ensuring there was no such thing as a minute’s boredom.

Thanks to the Resort’s partnership with tourist providers in the area, we had a busy schedule of high octane outdoor activities during our mini-break.

A 2 Day Family Pass to Westport House & Pirate Adventure Park for 2 adults & 2 children for €55 will get you admittance to Rides including the Cannonball Run slide, Pirates Swinging Ship, Bumper Cars and Pirates Plunge log flume ride, Swan Pedaloe Boats on the lake, Bouncy Castles, Westport House Express, Pirates Den. (Full Price €118.00)

We checked out the Adventure Islands New High Ropes Course, the first of its kind in Ireland, located close to the entrance to Westport House. Elevated high above the ground rising to three levels and ultimately the zip wire, the High Ropes challenge is a magnet for daredevils, all supervised to stringent safety standards. Again, booked while resident at the Castlecourt Hotel and Westport Plaza Resort, 2 adults & 2 children aged 8 - 16 years costs only €20 in total! (Full Price €120.00).

There is so much to do and see at Westport House you can easily spend at least a full day there - we also enjoyed a separate zip wire challenge - perfect for thrill seekers - clay pigeon shooting and a tour of the historic Westport House itself.

Families were literally having a field day with parents, grandparents and kids participating in sports such as archery and mini golf, while the pirates den resounded with squeals of delight from the popular log flume ride, mega swing boat and bouncy castles.

Zorbing - rolling down a hill strapped inside a giant dry or water-filled plastic orb - is one of the biggest attractions at Westport House and guaranteed to have you head over heels with excitement!

For adults who may prefer to take a more leisurely approach, the grounds themselves are full of fabulous walkways with expansive lawns perfect for picnics.

Back at the Hotel Resort, the fully supervised Buzz Club runs every week throughout July and August keeping children aged 5 right up to 16 years entertained throughout the day; the choice of activities is jam-packed and includes water polo, snorkeling, rounders, arts & crafts, bike trail, swim relays, basketball, swimming, Westport House, quizzes, zumba, marital arts, family night, sports day Friday, movie time and much more!

The Bumbles crèche is ideal for the little ones aged 2-5 years, providing complimentary childcare to residents.

Children can also opt to dine at the Buzz Club so Mum and Dad can chill out and savour a meal together or enjoy a pampering treatment in the glorious Spa Sula.

The C Club boasts first class leisure facilities including a 20m pool, children’s splash pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gymnasium.

A range of board games, Playstations and kids DVDs are also available for guests.
