Derry’s most famous son, composer Phil Coulter, has expressed his delight at Damian McGinty’s successful win on The Glee Project via social networking site, Twitter.
Phil Coulter, who snapped up the local teenager for musical extravaganza Celtic Thunder, congratulated his young protégé on his recent rise to stardom on the hit US show.
Coulter ‘tweeted’ a few days ago: ‘Well done Damian! Brilliant. I still remember his demo CD arriving on my desk way before C.T. [Celtic Thunder] Knew he was going places but WOW. So proud of him.”
The Derry teen was selected as one of the top 12 finalists out of a staggering 40,000 hopefuls who auditioned for The Glee Project via MySpace.
He first came to prominence as part of the five-strong Celtic Thunder stage show, created by Phil Coulter. Since Celtic Thunder’s formation, the group have released six albums and five live performances on DVD. With literally millions of fans worldwide, Celtic Thunder have toured extensively including coast to coast tours of America, Canada and a forthcoming tour of Australia.
