Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre/Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró is the place to be for the 2014 Danny Boy Festival: it has everything from cultural tours to art exhibitions as well as outstanding music – so save the dates in your diary and come along!

The headline act for this year’s festival is the ever popular Bagatelle on Friday, 16 May at 8pm and tickets are going fast.

Responsible for helping to change the face of music in Ireland, everybody remembers their iconic summer song ‘Summer in Dublin’ which was a massive No. 1 and has gone on to become an alternative National Anthem with Irish people worldwide. Tickets £14 full/ £12 concession.

Saturday, 17 May takes us outdoors to Drumceatt Square from 1pm to experience the unique sound of Japanese Taiko drumming. It promises to be a visual spectacle! Free admission.

Borris and Ricardo’s Magical Clown Show take over on Saturday, 17 May at 1.30pm. The clowns are masters of slapstick and fun, but sadly Borris and Ricardo’s feats of magnificent, magical mastery don’t always go to plan! Laugh out loud entertainment for all the family. Free admission.

The 2014 musical extravaganza continues with Sí Van on Saturday night, 17 May at 8pm. Many folk groups have been labelled ‘Supergroups’, and rightly so, but not often do three voices come together, wordlessly demanding such recognition.

Sí Van – Gaelic for ‘Fairy Women’ - are just that: a combination of three of Irish music’s most distinct voices combining the huskiness and power of Niamh Parsons’ delivery, the sweetness and conviction of Mary Dillon’s rills, and the delicacy and honesty of Tíona McSherry’s renditions.

Tickets: £12 full/ £10 concession.

Chill out on Sunday, 18 May from 1-4pm with Folk and Trad in the Green Lane Museum in Roe Valley Country Park featuring Brí which comprises David Dunlop, Heather Montgomery, Deirdre Tasker together with George Murphy and friends. All welcome. Free admission.

With such an array of events, as well as heritage and art exhibitions, there is no doubt that it’s going to be a fantastic weekend.
