The wedding of a Derry couple who tied the knot in December has been put on the worldwide stage by fashion experts at Vera Wang.
Edel McCaul and Declan Gill got married in St Eugene’s Cathedral on New Year’s Eve with a Vera Wang theme running throughout proceedings. Edel, daughter of Martin and Margaret McCaul sourced the stunning Vera Wang gown in London and says she knew it was the dress for her just by looking at a photograph.
“I’d seen it online and I just knew. The minute I put it on me in the Vera Wang Store in London, even before they put me in front of the mirror, I knew that was the dress for me. It was an amazing moment,” said Edel.
Having followed the internationally renowned ‘Vera Unveiled’ blog while preparing her own wedding, Edel contacted experts at the New York based fashion house with her own story and photographs from local photographer Lisa McConalogue.
“I saw there was an opportunity to submit wedding photos and I knew how helpful the blog was when I was preparing myself so I sent off an email and didn’t think any more about it.
“They came back in June and I worked with Lisa, the photographer and we sent some photos last Tuesday. I couldn’t believe it when I heard back from the Vera Wang headquarters in New York on Friday night. It was so quick for them to come back!”
Since then, the wedding has been viewed by thousands on the world famous blog and even prompted two tweets from the Vera Wang Twitter account advising 500,000 followers not to miss the “truly unforgettable” Derry wedding.
Edel, who’s spending this weekend in Edinburgh at a friend’s hen party said: “I’m just completely amazed. We had the best day and it’s lovely that they thought it was special enough to put on the company website. I’ve only ever seen one other Irish wedding ever on the blog so it’s great that Derry’s getting a bit of attention.
“We have to thank the Solis Lough Eske Castle who gave us a wonderful setting on the big day
“I have to thank Lisa McConalogue as well who did an unbelievable job with the photography. She was fantastic and it’s a great platform for her work.”
Photographer Lisa McConalogue added: “I’m over the moon. I’m just doing photography part time at the moment but to get this kind of exposure so soon is really amazing.
“Edel and Declan are a gorgeous couple and they were a dream to work with.”
