Faughan Anglers’ meeting

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has met with the River Faughan Anglers to discuss issues that impact on the river.

Speaking after the meeting on Wednesday, Mr Durkan said: “I met with the River Faughan Anglers to discuss retrospective planning applications and environmental crime issues which have affected the river.

“It was very a positive meeting which effectively highlighted the Faughan Anglers’ concerns associated with planning, illegal landfill and quarrying which severely impact the river.

“I am extremely keen that my officials work closely in partnership with key stakeholders such as the River Faughan Anglers in resolving these local concerns.”

Mr Durkan said he had directed officials to formalise plans for moving forward and resolving these issues.

“I will continue to offer my full support in ensuring closure on these issues.

“I have asked Northern Ireland Environment Agency’s Environmental Crime Unit and senior Planners to meet with the Anglers regarding any valuable information they may have on alleged environmental crime in the area of the River Faughan. I also instructed senior Planners to meet with the Anglers to discuss planning issues.

“If anyone has any information of illegal dumping, you can report it anonymously through the Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
