According to the organisers, the Folk Club will be a forum for established musicians and surprise guests, but just as important, it will also provide an opportunity for new performers, both young and not so young.

“There is a wealth of talented singer-songwriters in and around the Derry/Donegal area who seldom perform or indeed may never have performed in public before. The Folk Club will provide a platform for this undiscovered musical treasure”, said local singer-songwriter, Martin Sweeney, who will be the club’s resident act along with Sean McTaggart. Their self-penned songs are mostly inspired by local places and people.

Martin continued: “We are delighted that Eamon Friel and Dougie Breslin have agreed to be our headline guests on the first night. They are two very talented troubadours, who share a rich heritage of seasoned performance and inspirational music”.

Also on the bill is Aine Sweeney, a young and very talented singer-songwriter who no doubt will be one to watch in the future.

The Foyle Folk Club gigs will be held on the first Friday of every other month. Doors open at 8:30pm tonight with the first act on stage at 9pm sharp.
