In its 42nd year the Strathfoyle Community Festival starts next week (Sunday 20th July)

There’s lots happening for all the family to enjoy but here’s a rundown of the highlights.

On Tuesday 22nd July the ‘Unity in the Community 5k run’ takes place within the Strathfoyle Estate. There are more than 300 runners taking part, all in aid of the Sperrin Unit Altnagelvin.

Tuesday will also see the Action Cancer bus at the Strathfoyle village centre for members of the community who wish to have a health check. These appointments must be pre-booked by calling 028 9080 3344

Then on Friday 25th July The Clameens plus support will be playingin the Strathfoyle youth club. Doors open at 7pm. This event will showcase some local talent from the area and is a night not to be missed. It’s also an alcohol free event and although this will be a free gig, tickets can be collected from Strathfoyle community association or Strathfoyle youth club.

A huge family fun day runs from 1-5pm on Saturday while the annual Lisahally vs JImmy B football match takes place at the Strathfoyle football pitch at 6.30pm.

Saturday evening culminates in the Strathfoyle big reunion at the Gransha club, in aid of the Sperrin unit Altnagelvin. It starts at 8pm and will be a great night to catch up with old friends in aid of a good cause. Admission is £3 with lots of raffles and auctions on the night. Entertainment is by DJ Jeff and Checkmates.

The final day, Sunday 27th July sees the Strathfoyle community aerial display on the football pitch from 3-7pm. This event will see the Sligo rescue helicopter land and everyone can get up and close with the aircraft and its crew.

There will also be a performance from the North West Model Aircraft club with their fantastic model airplanes and Helicopters. Paramotor pilots will also be flying overhead and hopefully landing weather permitting!

Vehicles owners in the Beechwood Park (facing the pitch) are to kindly asked to park their cars in their driveways during the hours of 2pm and 7.30pm to facilitate emergency access.
