When it comes to the Derry Feis 14 years-old Rebecca Doherty is unstoppable.
For the sixth year in a row the talented Derry schoolgirl has won the award for best overall competitor in the Feis Under 17.
And it doesn’t stop there.
This year she picked up 24 gold medals at Feis Dhoire Cholmcille, beating the record she set last year of 22 gold medals, and 20 gold medals in 2012.
She also set another two Feis records by winning all three Open Repertoire Competitions across the three disciplines of Piano, Strings and Woodwind and the Special Award for the Best Individual Feis competitor (under 17) for the sixth consecutive year.
When the Derry girl visited the Journal offices this week it took her a good ten minutes to unload the many medal and trophies she had won.
Rebecca’s tutors include Kevin Healy-(recorder- winner of The Willie Campbell Shield for the most successful instrumental teacher), Robert Peoples (violin), Kathryn O’Callaghan (voice), Diana Mc Laughlin (piano), Rionach McGlinchey (drama) and Mrs Mc Gillion (flute) Lumen Christi College.
Rebecca, who hails from the Culmore Road also won the following Special Awards : The Edward Henry O’Doherty Shield for the best Individual Feis Competitor (under 17) for the sixth consecutive year (a new record for this particular award) and The Bridget Cassidy Cup for the Most Promising Violinist.
