A spokesperson for the event said: “For those of you who missed the Ryan Tubridy Radio programme from Buncrana, there will be an opportunity to hear the local children’s music group, led by Caroline Glackin.

“Traditional musicians will provide music from 8pm till the sun sets. And please ensure that you have the necessary footwear to participate in the Set-Dancing led by John Grant.”

She added: “The Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, takes place on June 21, although from the 19th June till the 22nd the days are of a similar length.

“At Banba’s Crown in Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point, the longest day of the year is in fact 28 minutes longer than Dublin and a whopping 45 minutes longer than Cork so that provides the community with a unique reason to celebrate. Not to mention the Star Wars ‘fame’ of recent days.

“There will be car parking in a field near the main road and a local minibus will operate a shuttle service to and from the Tower. We welcome you and look forward to seeing you all there. Please feel free to bring along a musical instrument and join in the fun with the other musicians.”

The project is supported by Inishowen Oil Company and Inishowen Development Partnership.
