Musicians across Derry and Strabane have been urged to prick up their ears for a new competition ahead of the 2014 Music City celebrations this summer.
Local bands are now being given the opportunity to win three full days of recording time in a state-of-the-art recording studio.
The Big Break Challenge competition is being run by Derry City Council in co-ordination with Blast Furnace’s Resonate Project.
The winner will also receive a professional photo shoot session, portfolio of images, their recorded material on hardback and the chance for renowned record store Cool Discs to stock and sell their CD.
Oonagh McGillion, Legacy Director at Derry City Council, said: “This is a fantastic competition aimed at encouraging original acts across the city and region to showcase their talents, creativity and energy and be in with a chance of securing this fantastic prize.
“The competition is a key element of the Music City 2014 programme and part of our legacy promise to embrace and nurture our city’s unique talent.”
For their chance win the full Big Break prize package interested bands and musicians are asked to e-mail links of their performance videos (Youtube, Mp3/Mp4 ), a short biography and a mission statement about why the prize would be beneficial to them.
Oonagh said: “The Council recognises the importance of independent record stores and their role in promoting local artists through sales of albums and promotion of gigs and events, something that Lee Mason and staff at Cool Discs do extremely well across all music genres.
“This is the first competition that we are facilitating and there are others well advanced in the planning stage.”
