Paul, 27, is from Derry and plays guitar in one of the country’s most exciting new bands, ‘Making Monsters’.

The email revealed that the band’s latest single, ‘Better’, had been selected by the BBC as ‘Tip of the Week’ - this means the track will be played on more than 30 BBC radio stations over the weekend and will feature on BBC Radio 6 Music on Monday.

“Last Sunday, our new single ‘Better’, from our upcoming E.P., was played on BBC Radio 1 by Daniel P. Carter, as an exclusive world premiere,” explained Paul.

“The following day it received another play on Radio 1 by Phil Taggart, it has also been selected as BBC Introducing’s ‘tip of the week’, meaning it will be played on over 30 BBC radio stations across the UK this Saturday, and also on 6music on Monday. “When we got the email informing us, we couldn’t believe it, the amount of potential new listeners we could reach is amazing, and to have such support from the BBC is a real honour,” he added.

‘Making Monsters’ formed in 2011 and the band are Emma Gallagher from Muff (vocals); Paul Monk from Derry (guitar); Gary Todd from Omagh (bass) and Brian Doherty from Derry (drums).

The band released their first E.P., ‘Attention’ in 2014 and followed it up with three further singles and music videos that were played extensively on BBC Radio 1. Their single ‘Nosebleed’ was featured by rock music channel and radio station, Kerrang.

The band has been busy working on their new E.P., ‘Bad Blood’ for the last two years and it is due for release next month.

“We’ve been working on this record for near two years, and we’re extremely pleased to confirm the new E.P. ‘Bad Blood’ will be officially released on May 13 across all major digital stores and streaming sites, with physical copies available from our merchandise store and all live shows. It’s available to pre-order now from iTunes and all pre-orders will receive an instant download of the new single ‘Better’,” said Paul.

Earlier this week, ‘Making Monsters’ confirmed details for their up-and-coming tour of Ireland. One of the dates will see the band launch their new E.P. in the ‘Back Room’ in Sandino’s in Derry.

“The E.P. launch party is on May 14 in Sandino’s ‘Back Room’. It’s going to be one hell of a party, support comes from the amazing ‘Geneva Experiment’, and fantastic new Derry artist ‘Reeva’, it’s a night not to be missed, so get down early,” said Paul.
