Marty Coyle '˜excited' with new music role

Coyle has been working as a full time musician in a professional capacity for the past ten years, with expertise across a multitude of instruments and styles. He is, perhaps, most often associated with traditional and folk fusion group, Balkan Alien Sound, in which he plays bouzouki and tours with, both nationally and internationally.

Through the Nerve Centre’s links with the burgeoning music community in the North West, Coyle will engage and collaborate with a range of both well-established and emerging musicians, songwriters, bands and producers to create and perform original pieces of new music.

He said: “I’m really excited about taking on the role as Musician-in-Residence. One of the great things about working in this industry is that it allows you to take on creative challenges. I believe these challenges can be as exciting as you make them and, although I intend to have great fun, it’s also a role I take very seriously. I can’t wait to start work making music.

“The fact that I am a local musician really fills me with a sense of pride taking on the role. It’s fantastic to be able to do this type of job in your home city and can, hopefully, inspire some of our own local younger musicians as well as my contemporaries.”

He added: “It’s really important for me to put Derry under the spotlight and, as a local musician, it’s my job to show off my city.”
