If you’re in Derry and sitting on a script which is ready for the stage, the Page to Stage team at Greater Shantallow Community Arts (GSCA) are keen to hear from you.
The prestigious and popular Page to Stage workshops held by GSCA under the auspices of the Arts Council of Northern Irelands, Arts in the Community Programme, moves up a stage this autumn with a series of four masterclasses, starting on Saturday September 6 from 10.30am – 1.30pm, at the Community Arts Rooms, based in Bloomfield.
The classes will then roll on for the first Saturday of the following three months, October 4th, November 1st and December 6th.
Speaking this week, Facilitator Felicity McCall said “There’s been such a remarkable response to the recent workshops that I’m conscious that individual writers’ time is restricted. These masterclasses are designed for playwrights who have a script at rehearsal stage and will ensure the support of actors, a professional stage setting, music and any specific requirements including, in one case, advice on animation. By limiting the scripts that are ‘stood up’ to two per class we have a unique opportunity to bring them that final step towards professional production. The feedback and constructive criticism from fellow writers on every aspect of the scripts will be an invaluable part of the masterclasses and I’d urge both established and emerging writers to come along and contribute.”
Greater Shantallow Community Arts general manager Olly Green added: “This is a further development in one of the best supported and most productive of our projects that has seen many writers develop their work from the early stages to a full scale professional production.
“I am confident that the masterclasses will result in some of the finest new work to grace our stages, airwaves and screens in 2015 and beyond. Admission is free with complementary refreshments and writers are advised to book a place by contacting Louise Hughes Outer North Community Engagement Officer at Greater Shantallow Community Arts, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone: 02871357443.”
