“The services are available for people with cancer, those who care for people with cancer, and the family members of those affected by cancer. And they can be used by adults and young people, we will also have services for children.”

As part of the initiative the groups are planning a monthly coffee morning with the men’s group - the Pink Panthers.

“Now we have access to the building at Old School Lane we want to continue building on the services,” said Michelle.

The first coffee morning will be held on Thursday June 30 from 11.12.30 pm - and is open to everyone.

During the coffee morning information will be given on cancer awareness and how to do referral forms.

“This month the Pink Panther group are celebrating their third birthday,” said Michelle, “and they continue to go from strength to strength. Currently we have 21 members in the Pink Panthers and they are all very active and are keen to take their work into other areas. The event will also tie in with Men’s Health Week.”

Next Thursday on June 15 the Pink Panthers will hold a Pit Stop event at the Pink Ladies new premises at 5 Bayview Terrace.

Men are invited to attend the session between 10 am and 3pm where they can get their blood pressure checked, advice on diet and exercise, information on cancer awareness and find out about reducing their risk.

“We would ask men to take fifteen minutes out of their working day and come along on June 15,” said Michelle.

“You don’t need an appointment and the session is open to men of all ages.

“We will be giving out leaflets and also offering smoking advice. The advice we given on the day is vital information and from our events in the past men can be surprised at some of signs and symptoms to look out for that they didn’t know before.
