Local teenager Rachael O’Connor has made it to the live shows in the hit BBC show The Voice.

Tonight, during the knockout round the 17 year-old sang Paloma Faith’s ‘New York,’ a song she said was tough, and tested her vocals.

“I am just over the moon to be through to the next round,” she told the ‘SUNDAY.’

“It wasn’t my best performance, I got through by the skin of my teeth but I’m delighted.”

And Rachael says she is delighted to be able to keep on working with her mentor Kylie Minogue.

“It’s lovely knowing Kylie,” she said, “and knowing that she sees the potential in me.”

“It is just amazing that she put me through in front of a group of the most amazingly talented singers.”

Next week Rachael heads for the live shows.

She’s already packed her bags and is now living in London where she will remain as long as she stays in the competition.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever lived away from home,” she said. “But I’ll be living in an apartment with one of the other girls and we will have a chaperone.”

The competition really heats up next week as the shows are on live.

And each week the stakes are higher and four people are sent home.

“I don’t know what my song will be yet,” said Rachael. “But I’m hoping that it will be something that I know. The thought of singing live on Saturday night is very scary and nerve wracking.

“But no matter what happens I am just delighted that I have been able to get this far. And it has been great to see so many people get behind me.”

The Limavady girl has already been named by bookmakers William Hill as the favourite to win the series and the YouTube video of her Blind Audition has been viewed in excess of half a million times in the past three weeks.
