Top Ten free events at the Maritime Festival this week

1)Live at the Foyle Maritime Festival, Guildhall Square, (Everyday 12pm to 10pm): Live music and DJs taking to the stage throughout the day.

2) Maritime Markets, Queen’s Quay (Each week day, 12pm to 10pm, Saturday 10am to 11pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm): International market stalls offering food and drink, clothing, jewellery and crafts.

3) Pirate Invasion, Guildhall Square July 12, (daily 12pm to 6pm): kids offered everything from water boats to chance to take a selfie with a pirate or attend pirate school and make some maritime arts and crafts.

4) Let’s Get Curious Kids’ Zone, Queens Quay, (daily 12pm to 8pm): Families will get into the spirit of all things nautical in this creative zone where would-be captains, pirate and mermaids can design their own boats, make costumes for their crews and flags for their boats, get snapped in the nautical photo booth, paint pebbles and shells to make nautical hanging mobiles or use the pirate map to help locate hidden treasure on Queen’s Quay.

5) Loughs Agency Canoe River Tour, Prehen to Culmore Point, (Wednesday at 6pm): Advance booking necessary via Footsteps 07901688979.

6) Clipper Race Prize Giving and Celebration, Guildhall Square, (Wednesday at 7pm): Seo Linn will headline a night of celebration in the city when the public are invited to come along and officially welcome the Clipper Round the World Race to the city and celebrate the achievements of the winning teams for Race 12 from New York to Derry.

7) Clipper Race Kitchens, Ebrington Square (Thursday to Sunday, all day): Food Village on Ebrington, with live cook offs, artisan food producers, and celebrity chefs.

8) The Phoenix Tall Ship, McFarland Quay, (Thursday 12pm to 5pm, Friday 12pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm): Vintage 1929 star of countless TV and movie productions, most recently “In the Heart of the Sea”, “Poldark” and “Outlander”.

9) Finale Event: ‘The Voyage of Sunniva’, Queen’s Quay (Saturday 8pm to 11pm)- The illuminated journey of a medieval Irish Queen who fled from an invading King with her people in small boats and without navigation, to safety against all the odds. This event will bring together land, water, aerial, light and music in a world class spectacle that will be talked about for years to come, just like Sunniva herself, with music from among others Derry’s Balkan Alien Sound and trad outfit Kila.

10) Clipper Race Yachts Parade of Sail, Queen’s Quay (Sunday 1pm): The festival will bid an emotional farewell to the Clipper Race yachts with a majestic Parade of Sail circling the river as they depart for their next official race start at Greencastle, Co Donegal.
