A Derry filmmaker now working in England has called upon his hometown to dig deep to help raise the final funds needed to complete his film, Mr Happy.
Director and writer Eugene Magee has already lined up a fantastic cast, including Michael Ryan, who starred in Steven Spielberg’s Warhorse and Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla, and Misfits star, Jenny Bede. With the actors, crew and location all confirmed, the team are trying to fund the project through Kickstarter and need to raise £3,500 by February 28 - this Thursday - or will forfeit all donations contributed.
Mr Magee told the ‘Journal’ this week: “We really can not make the film without the help of people through generous donations. In return there are rewards for donating, such as a copy of the film once it’s complete, or downloads of the soundtrack, etc. As it stands we have raised 57% (£2,025) of our funding goal of £3,500. If we do not make our target by the deadline of February 28 then all donations go back to the backers and we, as a team, keep nothing. It’s that simple,” he adds.
Mr. Happy is a short romantic revenge film about the lives of an office worker and cleaner. Through a drunken remark made on a post-it note Michael sparks an unlikely relationship with Rachel the office cleaner who he has never met. The team hope to enter the film into international film festivals, including the 2013 Foyle Film Festival. Can you help finance some true local directing talent and make Mr Happy a reality?
