Tickets for the City of Culture ‘On Home Ground Poetry Festival’ in Magherafelt in September are already moving fast with the Seamus Heaney evening now completely sold out.
Heaney, the festival patron and long-term friend of the organisers, will perform an address entitled ‘Important Places: A Reading With Commentary’ on Friday 20 September, officially opening the exciting three-day event.
Highlights of the festival include a reading by award-winning poet Michael Longley and broadcaster William Crawley in conversation with novelist and short story writer Bernard MacLaverty. Bob Morrow, an Australian poet with Ulster ancestors, will also perform.
In The Magic of the Ordinary on Saturday, September 21, former BBC Northern Ireland Controller Pat Loughrey, now warden of Goldsmiths College London, will speak about Monaghan poet Patrick Kavanagh. There will an exhibition by Irish artist Michael McGuinness, and National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke, will close the festival at 8.30 pm on Sunday, September 22.
