Have your say

Like so many others in Derry, I was overwhelmed to see so many revellers in the city for the Fleadh Cheoil. We watched history unfold.

The Fleadh Cheoil has been an outstanding success from beginning to end. The potential of hosting such a world-renowned celebration of Irish music and culture was fully realised and we, as a city, far surpassed all expectations. A spotlight was shone on Derry, illuminating all that is fantastic about our fine city and its amazing inhabitants to a global audience. It truly was an historic week for the city.

Some are saying the Fleadh Cheoil attracted as many as half a million visitors to the city centre and yet the city took this surge in its stride. Hundreds of thousands crammed the streets, but thanks to the superb organisation and planning involved, we made headlines for all the right reasons. Everyone who ventured out to partake in celebrations did so with pride and passion.

Everyone involved in bringing the Fleadh Cheoil 2013 to fruition should be rightly praised for their commitment and vision in bringing the Fleadh over the border for the first time. I’m sure I speak for many locally when I say thank you - both for the opportunity to prove ourselves and for a week we’ll never forget.
