Imaginative dance performances have captivated audiences around the city this week and last, including in places like Guildhall Square and the Peace Bridge, and it’s all thanks to Echo Echo’s latest international project, The Motion Ensemble, which runs until Sunday, August 17.

Echo Echo’s core ensemble of dance artists have combined talents with ten international guest dancers and musicians from Moldova, Russia, USA, Finland, Germany Israel, Sweden and Italy.

Collectively, they have enlisted the talents of two local musicians, drummer Mark O’Doherty from fantastic Derry band Little Bear, and Lorna McLaughlin of The Henry Girls to create The Motion Ensemble.

It’s one of three ambitious new projects created by Echo Echo this year as part of City of Culture 2013, and daily performances will continue all around the city, both indoors and outdoors, until August 17. All performances are free and everyone is welcome.

Steve Batts, the Company’s artistic director, elaborated: “The Motion Ensemble is a very special performance project that Echo Echo Dance Theatre

Company has organised as part of its 2013 City of Culture Programme.

“We have put together a large international ensemble of exceptional improvisers, with backgrounds in dance/movement and music. They will join members of the Echo Echo ensemble and we will spend three weeks making daily performances all around Derry-Londonderry.

“Every performance will be different so we’d like to invite you to come along to watch as many of them as you can and join us on a journey of creativity and discovery,” Batts added.

Specially commissioned performance maps have been distributed in city centre cafes and public spaces, and are also available direct from Echo Echo or on the company website.
