‘Why Am I?’ - the remarkable true story of one man’s battle with mental illness - will be performed at Sandinos Bar for one night only next Tuesday, November 27.
The play, written and performed by Vin McCullagh from Derry Writers Group, is based on his own experiences of coming to terms with, and overcoming, mental illness and originally premiered at the Playhouse in Derry.
Now a full time psychiatric nurse at Gransha Hospital, the writer has personal experience of mental illness having been treated for bipolar disorder in the past.
The play, which has toured extensively throughout the North, offers insightful, wry and darkly humorous observations on everything from education, political and clerical dogma, and the rigours of Electro-Convulsive Therapy.
Produced and directed by Jim McClenaghan and Carl Campbell - also members of Derry Writers Group - Why Am I? is a moving, inspirational piece of writing and should not be missed.
Why Am I? runs this Tuesday, November 27. Tickets are priced £3 and curtains are at 9pm.
