The runaway bestseller of the Christmas season in the North West, ‘Derry Journal - The Lost Archives’, had its official launch at the Journal’s new offices on Duncreggan Road tonight.

Those present included the Mayor Councillor Kevin Campbell, retired Bishop of Derry, Dr Edward Daly, the diocesan administrator Monsignor Eamon Martin and the managing director of Johnston Press in Ireland, Jean Long, as well as local councillors.

Tributes were paid to reporter Sean McLaughlin for his work in bringing forgotten glass plates from the newspaper archive back into the public eye. Former Journal editor Pat McArt said the new book captured forever an important era in the history of the North West.

Sales once again were brisk and there was talk of a possible second edition before Christmas to cope with demand. ‘Derry Journal - The Lost Archives’ is published by the Derry Journal and local publishers Guildhall Press.
