A celebration in memory of local guitar maestro Anthony ‘Doc’ O’Doherty, who died last month, takes place this Saturday, December 14.
‘Rawk for Doc’ will see scores of musicians fill the Carraig Bar on Strand Road for a night of tunes in dedication of the late musician. Doc’s death took everybody by surprise. He was just 40 years-old and much-loved throughout the city, having played in countless bands and taught guitar to scores of aspiring musicians at Derry’s Nerve Centre.
On Saturday, Little Bear, Little Hooks and Jeanette Hutton will join Pocket Surgeons, Johanna Fegan, Denver Haze, Sean Pemberton, Cradle Rock, Seventhson Tribute, Fused, Stephen McCann, Dramatic Tiger Club, Bulrush, The Benjamin Chapter and more.
Doc’s nephew and fellow musician, Ryan O’Doherty, organiser of Saturday’s event, said he was “overwhelmed” at the number of musicians who got in touch about playing on the night. “It just goes to show how many people loved Doc and how vast a musical legacy he leaves behind, himself, with his students, and, of course, with his friends and family,” Ryan said, “Everybody who knew Doc is invited to come along and enjoy Saturday night.” Limited tickets now available at the Carraig Bar.
