It has been confirmed that Derry singer Ben Kelly will face Ruth Ann St Luce in this week’s Battle Rounds on The Voice.

However, he cannot reveal which song he will be singing to save his place on the show.

Speaking to the Journal Ben said: “Ruth and I have such different music influences but I think the song we sing does suit us both.

“Usually I perform behind a piano singing pop classics, so the ‘battle’ song really mixes it up for me.”

Ben was coached by his mentor Jessie J and Scissor Sisters singer Ana Matronic before taking to the stage.

Ben said: “It’s a very different form of television and the Battle Rounds really are first class entertainment. I think everyone will really enjoy them.”

Ultimately it will be Jessie J, Ben’s mentor, who will decide his fate as she chooses one performer from each pairing to go through to the live shows next week.

Ben said the experience has been “brilliant”, with the Derry public being “a great support”.

The BBC One talent show with air on both Saturday and Sunday, with Ben’s ‘Battle’ featuring on Sunday’s show, which starts at 7.30pm.
