The legendary Buena Vista Social Club - creators of the best-selling album in Cuban history - will certainly have Derry’s Venue jumping as they round off Music City! on Friday, June 21, this year as part of Culture celebrations.
The brainchild of American slide guitarist Ry Cooder, the Buena Vista Social Club took the world by storm when they came together in Cuba in 1996. Since then they have taken their unique sounds around the world and played sell-out gigs everywhere. Their self-titled album has sold more than eight million around the globe, making it the best-selling album in Cuban history. One critic describes it as: “World music’s equivalent of Dark Side of the Moon”.
Tickets for their gig on June 21, are priced £15 from the City of Culture Box Office at: www.millenniumforum.co.uk.
