Local man Oran O’Carroll will fulfil an ambition this weekend with the grand opening of Derry’s new recording studio, Audio Booth, in partnership with his friend and star of US smash hit Glee, Damian McGinty.
The new state-of-the-art studio will be officially launched at 1pm tomorrow, Saturday, June 23, at the Nerve Centre with guest speakers including Derry’s Mayor Kevin Campbell, MLA Mark H Durkan and Martin Melarkey from the Culture Company, and live performances from Damian McGinty himself and other artists including Cheryl McAvoy.
Owner Oran O’Carroll conceived the idea for Audio Booth at the beginning of 2012.
Determined to make use of his musical engineering skills, Oran set up in the city’s Nerve Centre on Magazine Street, and hasn’t looked back since.
Meanwhile, his friend Damian thought it was a superb idea, particularly with the City of Culture year 2013 coming. The singer, who made his name in US phenomenon Celtic Thunder, jumped at the chance to be involved. Damien subsequently invested in the business and thanks to both men, Audio Booth now boasts top of the range equipment to produce highest quality recordings.
“We’re really excited,” Oran told the ‘Derry Journal’. “It’s all taking off now, and we hear that there are even people travelling up from Dublin to hear Damian singing at the launch so we’ve changed the launch venue to the main stage of the Nerve Centre!”
Still just 19-years-old, both Oran and Damien have shown an incredible amount of determination and ambition to embark upon this new business venture during such gloomy economic times and are hopeful for their city’s support to make the studio a success.
