American guitar legend Steve Vai will host an intimate workshop at the Nerve Centre next week as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations - his only appearance of this kind in Northern Ireland this year.

For a limited audience next Wednesday, August 28, the solo six-string master, once an understudy to both Frank Zappa and Joe Satriani, will deliver an evening of demonstration and discussion, as well as giving insight into his own extraordinary playing techniques. Since the 1980s he, along with his virtuoso contemporaries, have taken the instrument to previously uncharted regions of artistry. He’s sold more than 15 million copies of his solo albums along the way.

Vai is famed for the sheer scope of sounds he’s achieved in making such memorable music, ranging from emotive soloing to effects-heavy pedal work.

Marty McGill, Nerve Centre music programme manager, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming a real-life music legend to the Nerve Centre. In a way, Steve’s music has been one of the drivers behind our programmes for music education and talent development.”

Tickets for this unmissable evening, presented by the Nerve Centre in association with Rockers Reunion and Amp Promotions, are priced at £20 from the Nerve Centre Box Office, Ticketmaster and WeGotTickets. Contact the Nerve Centre on: 71 260562.
