Pop princess Kylie Minogue is the latest A-lister to have a record remixed by Derry based electro-pop act The Japanese Popstars.
Fresh from bagging the best live act at the Irish Dance Music Awards for a fourth consecutive year the Popstars - Declan McLaughlin aka Decky Hedrock, Gary Curran, and Gareth Donoghue - have given Kylie’s ‘Better Than Today’ single the remix treatment.
It’s not the first time the Derry based trio have been asked to remix a track for pop royalty.
The Popstars have also remixed for Beyonce, Gorillaz, The Ting Tings, The Editors and have worked with Groove Armada.
It’s a busy time for the Popstars with a remix of a Daft Punk track featuring on the Tron Legacy Reconfigured Soundtrack Album, a compilation for Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show recently aired and their second album just released.
‘Controlling Your Allegiance’, their first album since signing to Virgin Records last year, again features collaborations with a host of well known artists.
Decky says the band were very excited to work in this collaborative manner.
“It is the first time that we have been able to collaborate with vocalists on their own tracks and we have been lucky to bring in artists that we have grown up listening to and highly respect.”
Guests appearing on the album are Jon Spencer of the Blues Explosion fame, Morgan Kibby from M83, Curtis Jones aka Green Velvet, Robert Smith from The Cure, DotJR, James Vincent McMorrow, Lisa Hannigan and Tom Smith from The Editors. The trio are also mid tour and play a host of UK shows in the coming weeks.
