Snow Patrol are set to round off Derry’s City of Culture year with a gig at The Venue - the Journal has been told.

Snow Patrol’s song ‘Just Say Yes’ became the anthem for Derry’s City of Culture bid during the selection process - and band members Gary Lightbody and Johnny McDaid received a rapturous welcome in January when they played at the Sons and Daughters concert.

A gig by Snow Patrol had been rumoured last year to have been on the cards for the final City of Culture line up but these hopes were quashed when the band announced their “one and only” Northern Irish gig in 2013 would be as part of the Tennent’s Vital festival in Bangor this summer.

However moves have since been made to secure the band for a concert on the banks of the Foyle - with the official announcement expected to be made next week, coinciding with an announcement over the future of The Venue.
