Musicians from across the North West of Ireland are rosining their bows and polishing their brass ahead of what promises to be a two-day musical extravaganza taking place in Lifford and Strabane on September 6 and 7.
The landmark event known as the ‘Gathering of the Gales’, which is a free and a family day out occasion, will host some of Ireland’s finest musicians as they gather in the border towns to celebrate their musical heritage.
They will spend their time here filling the streets with music, as they play alongside some of our own most talented young people. The Gathering of the Gales is generously supported and funded by The International Fund for Ireland through the Riverine Project.
Programme Director, Tommy Barr said: “The inaugural event is fast gathering momentum and I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone in the Strabane and Lifford areas, and beyond for that matter, to come down and enjoy the free, family fun day out on Saturday, September 7 at the Alley Theatre courtyard.”
Strabane and Lifford will see a brass bands parade from one town centre to the other, while bands, groups and ensembles will perform continuously across two stages on the Saturday.
